"I needed help – I begged God in heaven to help me figure this out," says Carter, now sober for nearly ten years. What has the recovery process taught her? Kylie Minogue honoured with OBE

CBC reports:
Dance-pop diva Kylie Minogue was given the Order of the British Empire in London by Prince Charles on Thursday. The former Australian soap star turned international recording artist was honoured at a Buckingham Palace ceremony for her contribution to music.

"It is an incredible honour for me to receive this award," a beaming Minogue said. "It makes me feel both humble and proud to be recognized for doing a job that I love so much."

Earlier this year, France also honoured Minogue by naming her a Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et Lettres, one of the country's top cultural honours.

Christina Applegate's ex-boyfriend found dead

TMZ reports:
Lee Grivas, the 26-year-old boyfriend of Christina Applegate, was found dead in his apartment. His body was discovered on July 1 by a neighbor who found him in the living room of his Hollywood apartment. Grivas was pronounced dead at 5:25 PM.


Although the autopsy has not been completed, we're told there were no visible signs of trauma.

People reports:
Christina Applegate's ex-boyfriend Lee Grivas, 26, was found dead from an apparent drug overdose in his Hollywood apartment on Tuesday. "Grivas did have a history of drug abuse, and our investigator found a syringe at the scene," said Lt. Fred Corral of the L.A. Department of Coroner. "But we're not making any preliminary conclusions until a toxicology report is completed."

On Thursday, Applegate, 36, released the following statement:

"I am profoundly saddened. Lee was an incredible human being who was an extremely important and beautiful part of my life. He is missed beyond words. He touched so many and I feel much sadness for his mother, brother and all of his family and friends."

SANCTIMONY (2000)
Uwe Boll's first English-language movie is a boring American Psycho rip-off on which the director established a formula he would repeat for his next few cinematic offerings. Main ingredients? Thriller tropes; wordy, unbelievable dialogue; an intrusive soundtrack; and appearances by amiable straight-to-video mainstay Michael Pare and, more often than not, a member of the Starship Troopers cast. Here, cop Pare is on the trail of a serial killer played by Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, natch).

THE FIRST SEMESTER (1997)
Hilarity ensues in this college comedy when the uncle of an oafish student promises to give him a bunch of money if said nephew can pass two classes and get himself a steady girlfriend. Did we say ''hilarity''? We meant ''vomiting, flatulence, and poorly conceived plot twists.'' A box office bomb, The First Semester would be Uwe Boll's last (deliberately) comedic movie until his completed but as-yet-unreleased Postal.

HEART OF AMERICA (2003)
A dire, exploitative tale of gun-toting kids going berserk at their high school, Heart of America is what Gus Van Zant's Columbine-inspired Elephant might have looked like had Van Zant never directed a film before, or, indeed, had never seen one. Michael Pare and Clint Howard play, respectively, a teacher and cartoonishly unpleasant father.
